Meet the Artist
I am continually fascinated by the intersection of architecture and nature. My work is inspired by the contrast of the sharp angles and lines within modern architecture with the softer flowing lines found in nature. Having always been drawn to art that plays with three dimensional elements, I build texture onto the canvas to create movement and shifting perspectives.
My work explores how architectural elements can contrast and fight with nature while simultaneously co-existing and enhancing its surroundings.
Painting inspiration is drawn from family history (two generations of architects and five generations of ranching) as well as personal experiences and fascinations. Growing up on the family ranch in Montana, nature played a huge role in shaping my way of life, belief system and artistic direction. Appreciation of the natural world is ingrained in me and is evident in all of my paintings. As an adult my appreciation for architecture grew through my travels and researching my great-grandfather and grandfather’s architectural careers.
Painting allows me to explore my surroundings and experiences on a deeper level, spending hours understanding and creating the shape, texture and colors of each element in a painting. Adding texture to my paintings allows me to lean in to the natural textures and shadows created in nature. My paintings are a way for me to share my perspective of the world around us and I hope that these paintings transport you to a place or time that brings you happiness.
